School-based Clinical Services provide individual, family and/or group therapy to children, adolescents and their families in the setting that is most comfortable for the unique needs of each family, which could include their child’s school, their home or another community setting. There are currently Sweetser community-based clinicians working in more than 80 communities throughout Maine.
The goal of Sweetser's School-based Clinical Services is to increase each child/youth’s capacity to form healthy and affirming relationships with their family, school and community and to improve family/school functioning.
We believe every person and family has the inherent capacity to achieve positive change, and believe our programs can be a conduit to the implementation of meaningful improvements in the lives of these individuals. This change is promoted by our active engagement in partnerships between staff, leadership and clients, since sustainable change can occur most effectively through partnering with families, schools, and other community institutions.
Moreover, positive change is promoted by our striving to understand and respect every client's unique sociocultural values, personal goals, life style choices and complex relationships. Through positive and meaningful connections with our clients, we promote the development of trusting relationships for children and adults.
We strive to teach and encourage individuals to advocate for themselves. We seek through client feedback, research and staff input the feedback that helps us continually assess and raise the standards for care we provide. We, then, offer the ongoing training that is essential for clinical excellence.
